40 of 45 people found the following review helpful Best Nerf Gun for Younger Children, = Durability: = Fun: = Educational: This review is from: N-Strike Barricade RV-10 (Toy) I bought this for my 2 year old. It works great! It is a little heavy for him, but he can shoot it with little difficulty. Now we just need to teach him not to aim at our heads! Most nerf guns have a spring that has to be compressed. Not having that spring makes this gun the best gun for younger children. The second advantage of this gun is the barrel. Holding 10 darts is a bonus, but the best part is that the barrel is exposed. My 2 year old knows where the darts go and can load the gun by himself. My son can also operate the on/off switch by himself. The only problem is he frequently forgets to turn the gun off. Summary: A 2 year old can operate all aspects of this gun without an adult's assistance. For the big kid nerf wars (yes daddy has used it a time or two), this is the preferred gun because of its versatility and semi-automatic capabilities. I have a vulcan and longstrike and they are fun but they are too big and bulky. I am guessing the... I've found there to be some variation even within the same model, but for indoor play the range and accuracy are sufficient. Jams - I have not had the gun jam once, after multiple rounds of target practice, except when I have mistakenly hindered the chambers from advancing by holding the gun wrong. (With a stock added, the natural positing for the steadying-hand is right on the rotating chambers.) Size/weight - The gun is definitely the heaviest of the pistol designs, which is... It by far exceeded my expectations by shooting the darts almost instantly (I was expecting a lag like with the Vulcan or Stampede) and as accurately as any other Nerf Gun. The range is better than most Nerf guns normally get. As it is a revolver, this gun has an additional benefit--you can reload it while still having it ready to shoot, allowing you to not run out of ammo while protecting yourself (unlike clip system guns that require you to take out the magazine to reload, leaving you vulnerable). The downside is that it is noisy, by far the noisiest of all guns. As the flywheels must be spinning for the gun to shoot, the motor must always be on. So stealth is not a viable option. This is a worthy trade-off for the all-around awesomeness, especially if you carry a quieter gun with you to use for more covert purposes. |
